Evangelicals often appear to be a gloomy, pessimistic group, especially as they consider the challenges posed by the postmodern turn. Yet our theological forebears faced times of upheaval and far-reaching transition with forward-looking confidence borne from a trust in the convincing power of the Spirit-endued gospel. This series draws from the trajectory of evangelical theology that runs from the Reformation, through the Puritan-pietist awakening and into the advent of neo-evangelicalism in the mid-twentieth century, in order to set forth the theological basis for a renewed evangelical engagement in the contemporary context.
Stanley J. Grenz was the Pioneer McDonald Professor of Baptist Heritage, Theology and Ethics at Carey Theological College. He was a former Baptist pastor and author of numerous books including Sexual Ethics: An Evangelical Perspective, The Moral Quest: Foundations of Christian Ethics, and Theology for the Community of God.
