Philippians is a short letter, but includes quite detailed and crucial statements on a wide range of topics, such as the person of Jesus Christ, the doctrine of justification, and the Christian understanding of suffering. All this is set in the context of a letter whose socio-political overtones would have been quite clear to its first hearers.
